On 14 April 1969, the 48th moved from LZ Baldy to LZ Hawk Hill (Hill 29) located 7 miles north of Tam Ky (just west of the railroad) and 8 miles south of Thang Binh.  On 31 December 1969, Lt. Robert E. Allen assumed command.  On 16 December 1970, Lt. James M. Mulford took over as Commanding Officer.
