Notes for Henry Sykes
Some family members believe that Henry’s second wife was a Biggs girl making Elizabeth Cooley Henry’s third wife with whom he raised a large family. Soon after marrying Elizabeth Cooley, they moved to Humphreys County, TN where Henry remained for most of his life living in the Turkey Creek area. Some think that he may be buried in Hart Cemetery in Stewart County near his son James Thomas Sykes. It is believed that Henry made his home with James Thomas Sykes and Sallie Beasley Sykes in his declining years. Henry was a part-time preacher. Many of Henry’s offspring still live in the Humphreys County area. There is reason to believe that Henry and Elizabeth joined with several other Sikes families from the Stewart County area and went to Florida by ox train during the Civil War (1861-1865) to keep from being involved in the War. The destination in Florida is believed to be Leon County, FL
