Retired trucker and railroad worker Harold Franklin Sykes Jr., 93, of Greenville Miss., died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, in Greenville. Locally, he leaves a son: Terry (Geraldine) O’Neal Sykes of Paris, TN.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Boone-Wells Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Greenville. Chosen as pallbearers are Mike and Chris Sykes and Mike and Matt Hutchison. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Saturday. A Stewart County native, he was born Dec. 18, 1915, a son of the late Harold Franklin Sykes and Lucy Marie Ables Sykes, who lived in Dover, TN.

He was married on April 3, 1936, to the former Louise Cozy Whaley, who preceded him in death giving birth to their first child on Feb 5, 1937. He later was married on Oct. 28, 1939, to the former Ethel Pauline Ridings, who also preceded him in death in June 1994. He also leaves one other son: David Lee (Jeanie) Sykes of Greenville; a sister: Norma Sykes DeJarnette of Nashville; a nephew: Tom DeJarnette of Tampa, Fla.; two grandchildren: Michael Terry Sykes and Marcie LaDean (Mike) Hutchison; three great-grandchildren: Megan Louise Hutchison, Matthew Lee Hutchison and Christopher Terry Sykes.
