Kathryn "Kaye" Sykes, 73, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 2:22 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
She was born April 20, 1941 in Cadiz, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Horace Alton and Myrtlene (Gray) Cunningham.
She married Shirley W. Sykes on June 1, 1957 in Cadiz, Kentucky and he passed away on June 29, 1993.
She worked in day care with children with over 20 years of dedicated and loving care.
She loved her years of reading many books and enjoyed playing the piano in church. She was a faithful and dedicated member of the former First Church of the Nazarene in Pontoon Beach. She was always chatting on the phone with family and friends, cherished her grandchildren whom were the lights of her life and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law; a daughter and son-in-law; three grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law; three brothers and a sister-in-law; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson,
Stephen Nemsky and a brother,
Wayne Cunningham.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Friday, January 9, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2015 with Reverend Brian Smith officiating.
Burial will be at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights.
