Lane Sykes
The funeral service for retired Henry County Ambulance Service paramedic supervisor Lane Sykes of Paris was at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ridgeway Funeral Home.
Craig Peevyhouse officiated. Burial followed in Antioch Cemetery.
Named as pallbearers were Ricky Paschall, Carter Green, Billy and Brad Fields, Ronnie Farmer and William Lee.
Honorary pallbearers were members of Henry County and Weakley County ambulance services.
Sykes, 68, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at his residence.
His wife, Wanda Green Sykes, survives. They were married on Sept. 5, 1962.
Born June 9, 1941, in Springville, he was a son of Ozella Hopkins Sykes of Paris and the late Bonnie Sykes.
Sykes was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church and a longtime caretaker of Antioch Methodist Cemetery. He was a member of the Henry County Rescue Squad and former Boy Scouts of America leader and Little League baseball coach. A family member said he was an avid woodworker and carpenter and loved fishing and hunting.
He also leaves two sons: Timothy (Debra) Sykes and Thomas Lane (Lisa) Sykes, both of Paris; two sisters: Donna Hollaway of Mississippi and Vita Dalton of Murray; two brothers: Hal Sykes of Iraan, Texas, and Philip Sykes of Atlanta; and a grandchild: Curtis Dylan Sykes.
He also was preceded in death by three grandchildren: Chas, Morgan and Hannah Sykes.
