John Elliott Joiner was born on June 19, 1935 in Dover, Tennessee, the son of Herschel Joiner and Maggie (Elliott) Joiner.
He was married about 1961 to Virgina Thomason.
John served in the US Navy for 22 years, during which time he was on the aircraft carrier USS Randolph CVS13 and the Dodge County LST 722. He retired from the Navy with the rank of Master Chief, and he also retired after 14 years of Civil Service at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
He was a member of Big Rock Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, was a member of Lineport Masonic Lodge #207 for 50 years and was a member of Iron Mountain Chapter #412 Order of the Eastern Star. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
A resident of Dover, he was 80 years old when he passed away on May 24, 2016 at Henry County Medical Center, Paris.
Preceded in death by his parents and by his brother Thomas "Buck" Joiner, John was survived by his wife; a married son; married daughter; four grandchildren; a sister and many nieces and nephews.
Masonic and Eastern Star Services as well as Funeral Services were held at Anglin Funeral Home, and burial was in Mount View Cemetery with Military Honors.
