Hugh Frank Stone was born in Celina, Tennessee. Hugh's father Frank H Stone became the Dam Lockmaster at Lock D near Dover, Tenn while Hugh was still a young boy, explaining their family move from Celina, Tenn to Dover, Tenn. Hugh's only sister Claudine died at the age of 2 (1924-1927)from the croup.
Hugh attended college at Tennessee Tech in Cookville but left school early to volunteer in the US Navy (Submarine Corps) during World War II. He was aboard the USS Hackleback and fought in the Pacific.
Hugh returned to Dover, Tenn after the WWII and married his elementary school sweetheart Iona Maxine Whaley on Christmas Day, December 25, 1950.
They moved to Columbia, Tenn and began a family with a beautiful baby girl. Hugh continued his education while working as a salesman and became a successful Landscape Architect.
The family later moved to Nashville in 1955 and Iona began teaching elementary school in Nashville Metro Schools in 1961. Hugh initially worked for J R Potter Nursery in Joelton, Tn and for the State of Tennessee in landscaping for the majority of his career until his death.
Hugh was very well liked by one and all as his personality and kindness to others was his trademark.
