Oaxaca: The lure of a culture rich with history, food, art, festivals, and of course birds once again drew us back in 2024. This photo review covers many of the highlights of our return to this enchanted land.
It’s been said that a picture is worth a thousand words. Yet these photos can in no way offer a complete retelling of our experiences. Hopefully they will inspire you to visit one day. Revisiting and discovering new culinary delights, arts, music, architecture, scenery and so much more, made our return visit all we hoped it would be and more.
This visit included reconnecting with a number of people we had encountered in 2020 plus we we were able to share Oaxaca de Juarez with two couples who visited us. Long time Madison Wisconsin friends Steve Hiniker and Mary Ellen Volbrecht and Pete and Michelle Leiterman from Sierra Vista, Arizona.
We want to extend a special thanks to the staff of Tropical Birding and guide Nick Athanas for organizing another private bird tour shared with friends at the end of our stay in Oaxaca. Our 2020 tour with Field Guides had been cut short due to the outbreak of the COVID pandemic. The 2024 tour picked up where we had left off in 2020 by visiting the coastal Oaxaca plus expanding the tour by exploring the Chiapas region.
Last but not least, thanks again to Frank and Paul of Las Cruces, NM. Their prior stay at Villa Maria’s helped to facilitate our 2020 stay at Villa Maria’s apartments where we again stayed for our 2 1/2 month 2024 stay.
